Breathe provides a research based multi-disciplinary treatment programme for eating distress i.e. Anorexia, Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Compulsive Eating and failed dieting/obesity. Breathe uses a holistic and integrative treatment model funded by The National Centre for Eating Disorders and involves the combined use of therapeutic interventions.
Your role within the organisation is a registered dietician translates the science of nutrition into everyday information about food, health and well-being.
Dietician undertakes the practical application of nutrition with individuals and to promote the well-being of individuals and communities to prevent nutrition related problems. They are also involved in the diagnosis and dietary treatment of disease and also responsible to the Clinical Director.
Principals and Duties and Responsibilities
·Develop a professional therapeutic relationship with the client.
·Educating and advising patients affected by eating disorders and weight management/obesity diet-related disorders on the practical ways in which they can improve their health by adopting healthier eating habits.
·Help to facilitate dietary changes using Motivational Interviewing Techniques and Counselling Techniques to assist client in understanding the need to change, the process of change and how to change.
·Calculating patients’ nutritional requirements using standard equations based on assessments of blood chemistry, temperature, stress, mobility and other relevant factors.
·Helping people to understand and come to terms with their disorder/to defeat and/or manage their disorder.
·Delivering sessions to adults, children and young people.
·Recommended dietary interventions.
·Writing reports, case notes and maintaining accurate records.
·Advising other member of staff/clinicians about the specific dietary requirements of patients and diet plan.
·Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team/supporting the work of other staff members.
·Ensure that professional standards and training are up to date, supervision undertaken regularly and insurance are in place and up to date.
·Consider the development of the service at all times.
·Extensive knowledge of current trends in Mental Health and in Eating Disorder in particular.
·Extensive knowledge of standardised assessment in Occupational Therapy.
·Extensive knowledge of evidence based Occupational Therapy in Mental Health and in Eating Disorder in particular extensive knowledge of risk assessment and management.
·Working knowledge of “Recovering Ordinary Lives” strategy for OT in Mental Health 2007-2017.
